The Information Security Luminary Leadership Award is presented at the Information Security Executive (ISE) National Award Gala on an annual basis to showcase and honor an outstanding information security luminary and leader for their distinguished service, stewardship, and exceptional contributions to the advancement of the security industry.
The 2005 Luminary Leadership Award, sponsored by Intellitactics, provider of premier security information management solutions, was presented to Amoroso on November 14, 2005 at the second annual ISE of the Year National Awards Ceremony. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the CSI 32nd Annual Computer Security Conference and Exhibition at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC.
“We are passionate about recognizing those individuals and organizations who promote the growth of information security globally and at local levels,” said Marci McCarthy, CEO of Executive Alliance. “Only by engendering a greater understanding of today’s security challenges within the boardroom can we combat the increasing threats of cyber attacks. We’re proud and pleased to extend this award to such a luminary as Dr. Edward Amoroso for his efforts in advancing the technology and practices of the security industry. We look forward to continuing this tradition and recognizing others who shine a bright light in this industry.”
Amoroso serves as Chief Information Security Officer for AT&T, a position he has held since 1999. His twenty-year career at AT&T has been focused exclusively on information security, with a particular focus on security programs with AT&T's federal government clients. Amoroso helped build the first secure UNIX operating system at Bell Labs and was also the lead for trusted software security development on the Strategic Defense Initiative. In addition, Amoroso is the author of three previous books on information security, with a fourth book due out early next year.
“I am honored to be recognized by such an esteemed organization as Executive Alliance,” said Dr. Edward Amoroso, Chief Information Security Officer for AT&T. “The information security profession is experiencing important changes as business embraces the role of the security professional within the organization. This dramatic shift in the role of information security is vital for organizations to succeed in today’s economy, and I am proud to have played a role in establishing information security as an integral part of the enterprise.”
“Information security has moved from the backroom to the boardroom and is now an essential part of successful enterprises,” comments Randall K. Davis, president and CEO of Intellitactics. “In sponsoring this first Luminary Leadership Award, Intellitactics pays tribute to an individual who has promoted the importance of information security as a strategic initiative, demonstrated expertise in this dynamic field, and advanced the standards for information security across the industry.”
