Intellitactics Hosts Webinar on “Keeping Ahead of the HIPAA Compliance Curve: How to Achieve and Sustain a HIPAA-Compliant Environment”
Aurora Healthcare to Discuss Security Information and Risk Management Strategies for Healthcare OrganizationsReston, VA, March 3, 2005—Intellitactics will host a free webinar on security information and risk management strategies for healthcare organizations on March 10th, 2005.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule is the first comprehensive federal protection for the privacy of personal health information. The Privacy compliance date of April 14, 2003 has passed, and the healthcare industry is now in the final countdown toward the April 2005 compliance date for the HIPAA Security Rule.
Despite the looming deadlines there is much to be done by healthcare organizations to sustain compliance when the audits are completed. “Compliance isn’t an event; rather compliance is a change in the way healthcare organizations are conducting business. The challenge is sustaining the compliance environment over time,” explained Pamela Casale, Vice President of Marketing for Intellitactics. “We are impressed by the way Aurora Healthcare has developed mature security capabilities enabling them to stay ahead of the compliance curve.” IT security’s role in a compliance environment is ongoing measurement and remediation of security controls, and the creation of new controls as the organization’s tolerance for risk changes.
The HIPAA Privacy rule establishes standards to protect the confidentiality of individually identifiable health information maintained or transmitted electronically in connection with certain administrative and financial transactions. In addition, it advocates standards for securing electronic protected health information that is collected, maintained, used, or transmitted electronically.
Find out how Aurora Healthcare took control of their Security Information Management and is now looking ahead of the HIPAA compliance curve.
